Tristani donates remaining campaign funds to foundation

The granddaughter of the late U.S. Sen. Dennis Chavez is donating the leftover money from her own 2002 campaign for the Senate to the Dennis Chavez Foundation. Gloria Tristani requested to have the money used to buy and distribute the documentary "El Senador," which is based on her grandfather, to schools across the state, the Dennis Chavez Foundation announced Tuesday....

Hispanic Cultural Center honors late senator

Dennis Chavez was just 14 years old when he quit school to help support his family. He worked as a wagon driver delivering groceries. That experience motivated him to leave the Republican party, to which his father belonged, and become a Democrat. His compassion for the working class eventually defined his career as a U.S. senator.
